Permanent "Facial Restoration" by Dr Josie Tenore M.D., MSc.

Hi Everyone,
As a lot of you already know, I have declared myself to be a “restoration artist”, much like the old masters in Florence. Being Italian, it makes sense.  Think about it: those that restore Renaissance paintings meticulously examine the work of art, painstakingly removing that which has tarnished the canvas and adding color and dimension where it has been lost. When finished, the painting returns to what it once was: a beautiful work of art.  I do the same with faces. I look at what is before me, visualize the way it once was, and restore the volume that was lost.  When you look in the mirror, you will see the face of the person you recognize; the youth you once had.
I love to accomplish this using combinations of Volumizers and Fillers because it is the most effective way to restore your face to the best face it can be - without having to go under the knife.  Because I use a lot of volume in all the right places I am able to give you a “liquid facelift” with minimal to no downtime.  After the procedure, you can leave my office and have lunch with friends without anyone being the wiser!
Most of you also know that I will not stop in my pursuit of learning about new techniques and products – all in the name of giving you the best results without any bruising! When I inject filler now, I always use the cannula technique. Because this doesn’t have any sharp points, bruising and swelling is virtually eliminated. One of you recently called me to tell me how “amazing” this whole process was, and how much her “staff of 6-8 people had no idea that I had anything done!” I don’t know how many other doctors in Chicago are using this technique – just know that I am on top of it!
All of you also know that I believe in “treating the underlying problem”, rather than just “putting filler in where you think you need it”. Why? This is the only way that I can deliver that “natural look”- remember what I said at the start, I am restoring your looks, not changing you to look like someone else.
There are many types of fillers on the market, and I work as hard as I possibly can to choose the best filler to deliver the optimum results and get you looking “just right”!  That said, you will be surprised to discover that despite loving to inject fillers, I don’t really have a “filler practice”, by that I mean, I hardly use fillers that last only 6-12 months anymore. Why? Who wants to be injected every 6-12 months, with each and every visit having me “start from scratch”? I like to create beautiful, long-lasting art!   Over the course of a year, it thrills me to look at those of you that I have restored, and see that aging hasn’t really damaged my art much.  Using long-lasting fillers also allows you to be able to take advantage of our other great services, like laser resurfacing, so you can continue to improve the health of your skin and even the health of your bodies!
So how do I do it? Depending on the person, I love to combine some volumizers and fillers to create my customized “FreshSkin Liquid Facelift”. The technique is my very own, developed by studying how many other doctors perform their procedures and perfecting them to the best of my ability. One of the main fillers I use in my “FreshSkin Liquid Lift” is Artefill. It is the only FDA approved filler that lasts 5 to 10 years.  You read it right – it lasts years, not months.
What this product allows me to do is work on one area, get it completely restored, and then move on to the next area, all the while none of the filler is lost in the process.   In addition, there is some research to suggest that the longer a filler is in the skin (the deeper layer or the dermis), the better the effect on the top layer of the skin – the epidermis. The dermis is where all the collagen production occurs so it makes total sense that the overall health of the skin would be improved.  We are still trying to figure all of this out, but in the meantime I just LOVE how Artefill fills out the temples, smooths out the jawline, removes that “tired” look from your eyes,…..allowing you to leave that “skeletonized” look behind you.  What I love the most is the comments my patients get from their friends, most commonly, “were you just on vacation?” and my all-time favorite “have you lost weight? You look GREAT!”
I have a new goal: I want to continue to create and build my center so that it is a center of age management excellence and with that I want it to become a training site for other physicians and providers to come and learn all of the fantastic techniques that I have perfected for my patients. This way, other providers can become “restoration artists” just like me. This is the only way I can think of to clone myself and be in more than one place!
I recently read this line: “Stop renting your filler!” and I loved it enough to steal it for my very own! Because each person is unique, and the restoration process customized, it is best to come to one of our Artefill days to have an in-depth consultation with our professional consultant.  This way we can truly understand your goals and put together a treatment plan to achieve them!

The Artist of Artefill Day is Thursday April 25th, 2013 and it is coming fast so call and make your appointment today!

SAVE MONEY ON BOTOX

There is a new product on the market that has been clinically proven to both enhance and prolong the effects of BOTOX®.

It's called ZYTAZE® and it is a vitamin supplement which contains Zinc Citrate and Phytase.

Background information:

The way botulinium toxin is most effective when each molecule is associated with a molecule of zinc. For this to happen, we must consume the correct formulation of zinc. Not all zinc is created equal in that some if it is poorly absorbed. By combining Zinc with Phytase, absorption of zinc is maximized; allowing for higher levels of zinc in the bloodstream to be used by the botulinium toxin.
For maximum efficacy, it needs to be taken starting four days prior to the treatment, and it is recommended that all other vitamin/mineral supplements be held during that period. As with all vitamins, more is NOT better and too much Zinc can actually result in a decreased effect along  with several gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea as well as kidney problems , dizziness and a decrease in your immune system functioning. Consuming only the zinc in the form of Zytase in the recommended treatment period had been shown to lengthen the result of your treatment by almost 30%, while minimizing the risk of toxicity.

The other good news? ZYTAZE® is effective for all forms of botulinum toxin treatments including Botox®, Dysport®, Myobloc® and Xeomin®.

I am currently offering this to all my patients prior to their next treatment. Call us today at 847-681-8821 and start saving $$$$.

Taking advantage of the Fall HARVEST!

Remember the old saying - "You are what you eat"? Recent research is now supporting what our grandmothers have known for years. All of your organs, including your skin are best served by eating a healthy diet.
To keep it simple avoid all processed foods and refined sugars; eat a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables (especially the leafy green vegetables), low fat meat and seafood, and green or red tea.
To keep your complexion looking especially radiant choose foods that are rich in these top beautiful skin nutrients:
1.     Vitamin A – a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals, and helps to reduce the production of sebum (oil)
2.     Vitamin E – another powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from free radicals. It works along with vitamin A for numerous skin benefits.
3.     Vitamin B Complex - B Complex consists of eight vitamins that are essential to cell reproduction.
4.     Vitamin C – an essential compound of collagen, a protein found in the skin that gives it elasticity.
5.     Silica - (silicon dioxide) is a trace mineral found in the connective tissues (like the hair and skin) and is required in the body to keep nails, hair and skin in good health. It is also needed by the body to make collagen.
6.     Zinc - prevent inflammation and flare-ups in the skin. It is also needed to help skin heal and also reduces the effects of scarring.
  1. Beta-carotene - protects against free radical damage and is converted to vitamin A in the body.
Take advantage of everything that farmers markets have to offer!  Even if you really hate vegetables, do what the “godfather” of fitness, Jack Lalanne did over 30 years ago. Buy a juicer and combine your leafy green vegetables with your favorite fruits and drink them! (Lalanne was an American fitness and nutritional expert and who died recently at the age of 96!).
Get healthy inside and out with these popular combos!

Healthy Eating, Continued

I am back! The biggest request I have received in the past several months is for recipes.
Here is my favorite Lentil Soup Recipe:

Ingredients:
Dried Lentils - 16 oz
2-3 Cans of low Sodium Chicken Broth (Swanson's)
Escarole - 1-2 large bunches; finely chopped.
1 cup of chopped sweet onion
2 gloves garlic - finally minced
Salt and Pepper to taste.

Place lentils in large pot, cover with water until the lentils are submerged by at least 2 inches. Soak overnight. In am, drain and rinse lentils.
Sauté onions and garlic in a small amount of chicken broth (If you are allowed fats you can use olive oil) until translucent.
Transfer to a stock pot, add lentils and chicken stock until lentils are covered. Simmer until cooked. Add Escarole and heat until it is wilted.  Add salt and pepper to taste.
Top with freshly squeezed lemon juice or parmesan cheese (if allowed).
Enjoy.

More recipes and tips will follow in the up-coming weeks.
